Can you give us a spoiler-free overview of the game?

Red: The player will assume the role of Mouse, a human girl who has entered into a Changeling bond when she was only three, and then spirited away to Faerie where she was raised. Everfall’s story begins roughly two decades later… The Autumn Prince takes a sudden interest in Mouse, and most importantly, a nightmarish creature abducts her from her bed and tries to kill her. It’s up to Mouse to figure out how all these events might be connected and to save her life and her changelings.

How would you describe the tone and atmosphere of Everfall?

Red: Eerie might be the best way to put it… beautiful and magical and wondrous, but also a little scary. There are real dangers hiding in the darkness.

Why did you decide on the Autumn Kingdom as the central setting?

Red: I don’t know, I really love fall… And I already had a concept in my head for the Autumn Prince love interest, so I was just like, you know what, let’s go with it, because fall is great.

When you think about Everfall as part of your creative journey, what do you hope players take away from it?

Red: I think more than anything, I want players to feel that sense of wonder and unease that fairy tales used to have — the idea that beauty and danger coexist. But also, I want them to see the strength in humanity. Mouse might be small, mortal, fragile , but she’s resilient, clever, and full of heart.
If someone finishes Everfall and thinks, “I want to write my own world,” or “I want to make something that makes people feel this way,” — that would mean the world to me. That’s what stories did for me, and that’s what I hope mine can do for others.

You’ve mentioned how much feedback from players means to you. What has surprised you the most about the community’s response to Everfall?

Red: Honestly, the passion. When I released the demo, I thought a few people might play it, enjoy it, and move on , but the community completely exceeded my expectations. The way fans analyze every line, debate theories, and even make art and memes about the characters , it’s surreal and heartwarming.
What surprised me the most, though, is how players see layers and meaning I didn’t even realize I put there. They’ll message me like, “Oh, I noticed how this line foreshadows the ending!” and I’m like, wow, that’s brilliant, I wish I could say I planned that. It’s just beautiful seeing people care that deeply.

Characters in Everfall

Tell us about Mouse as a character.

Red: The player will be able to customize a lot of things about her… She is a small, scrappy, sneaky little character. She’s artistic, hardworking, and loyal, and she is very much so at the mercy of her humanity, but she doesn’t let that hold her back. Her nickname “Mouse” came because, as a baby, she would sneak into places like a little mouse. She embraced it and only got better at sneaking as she grew.

What can we expect from Raethorn, the Autumn Prince?

Red: He’s been away from Harvest Hall for decades… never spoken to Mouse until suddenly showing interest in her. Their dynamic is a bit of a cat and mouse. You can expect shameless flirting, a little bit of bullying, spicy secrets, and a genuine heartfelt connection. Raeth is not what he seems.

And what about Anders, the human knight?

Red: Anders knows Mouse’s Changeling—it’s one of his closest friends. He has secrets, a quest, and a purpose in Faerie. He and Mouse will need each other, and it will bring them closer together. He’s more trustworthy, noble, and human compared to Raethorn.

Many fans loved Fen, the satyr. Why isn’t he a love interest?

Red: Funny thing—he was originally a minor character, but I loved the banter so much I gave him his own sprite. So many people wanted him as a romance that I decided to add him as the third ally. I already know how their romance will unfold—90% done, just working it into the main narrative

What was most important to you in designing this branching experience?

Red: Character customization. Their appearance, name, and personality. But if I could only choose one thing—it’s choices. The decisions a player can make to shape their character.

Exclusive Content: Everfall

Can you share exclusive content or scrapped ideas from early drafts?

Red: Yes! In my earliest concept, instead of Anders, there were going to be two human brothers as servants to the manor, and Mouse would help them escape while falling in love with one of them. I scrapped this because it didn’t fit the story. Also, Raethorn eldest brother, Baelthorn, was originally going to feature heavily in Raeth’s route, but I had to cut him due to art limitations.

Everfall is more than a story, it’s a testament to the power of folklore, character-driven choices, and immersive worldbuilding. Whether you’re intrigued by the toxic allure of Raethorn, the steadfast loyalty of Anders, or the unexpected rise of fan-favorite Fen, Red’s work promises a journey as magical as it is perilous. Supporting indie creators like Red keeps these imaginative worlds alive, so don’t forget to play the demo, wishlist the game, and share your thoughts. Because in Faerie, every choice matters and your voice helps shape the story’s future
