Pivot of Hearts

In Pivot of Hearts, DragonRoll Studio delivers a deeply personal and refreshingly queer visual novel that offers slice-of-life storytelling, amazing character dynamics, nods to nerd culture, and a nuanced look at identity and non-monogamy. At the heart of the story is Wen, a Taiwanese-Brazilian programmer navigating grief, isolation, and emotional growth. When he’s invited to a Dungeons & Dragons-esc campaign by a concerned friend, his world begins to expand through romance, reconnection, and self-discovery.

At the heart of the game are the two love interests: Etsuko and Cauã.

Etsuko is the friend Wen knew from years ago, but failed to keep in touch. Her story is raw, full of tension and painful history. To be with her means reckoning with the past and asking the hard question: Can someone ever really make things right?

Cauã, meanwhile, is the warm new developer at Wen’s workplace. Open, grounded, and honest. his route is quieter, more about trust, boundaries, and the small joys of being truly seen by someone. His outgoing personality also helps Wen break out of his shell

What’s beautiful is that neither locked with one choice or another. As the games explores themes of non-monogamy, you can explore the possibility of being with both love interests.

DEVIL’S LIMINAL

A haunting summer. A demonic bond. And two queer girls who just might save each other. Devil’s Liminal is a yuri horror visual novel that fuses intimate coming-of-age realism with supernatural dread. Created by solo developer Renee of Studio Interlude, the game stands out with its black-and-white gothic visual style and narrative roots in Azorean folklore. Players follow Margo, a recent high school graduate returning to her impoverished hometown, who soon finds herself entangled in a mysterious blood bond, a forgotten demonic pact, and the terrifying presence of a hungry ghost.

As the days tick down to the start of college, Margo must uncover the truth behind these supernatural threads before the end of summer. But amidst the horrors, Devil’s Liminal weaves a powerful story of queer identity, trauma, and connection.

You can pursue one of two leads: Bec and Clara.

Bec is the sunniest of the two love interests—warm, supportive, and seemingly eager to help Margo. But her cheerful demeanor hides secrets, and peeling back her layers reveals unexpected darkness. Notably, Bec is a trans woman, and her character was inspired by Renee’s own wife, adding a personal and heartfelt dimension to her route.

Clara, by contrast, begins as aloof and unsettling. Once a mysterious cat, she’s wrapped in enigma and guardedness. But sticking with Clara unlocks her tenderness and vulnerability, revealing a poignant backstory and a rare sweetness. Clara’s character is partially inspired by Renee herself—specifically her moody teen years and fascination with cryptic thrillers.

Summer Haze Glory Days

Summer Haze Glory Days hits like a mixtape made for your teenage self: raw, nostalgic, and packed with emotion. Created by the dev Yam, this story-driven visual novel takes players on tour with a struggling indie band in the mid-2000s, capturing the chaos of van life, the bittersweet pull of old friendships, and the aching push-pull of making art for love vs. survival.

The game isn’t just a throwback, it’s a reflection on how messy, passionate, and complicated creative lives can be. The main character, Mal (Mallory), fronts the band and navigates a storm of emotional baggage, unresolved tension, and the harsh reality of trying to “make it” without losing yourself.

There’s only one romance route in Summer Haze Glory Days, and it’s a quietly potent one. Emerson is a fellow musician and a recurring presence on the tour, someone who always seems to be there when Mal needs to vent, reflect, or spiral. Their connection runs deep—not because of a shared past, but because Emerson represents something Mal isn’t sure they can ever be: grounded, successful, and secure in their artistry.

But Emerson isn’t a fantasy figure. The game lets their relationship with Mal unfold slowly and with care, shaped by the player’s choices. Whether that connection grows into something romantic or remains a trusted friendship, Emerson’s presence challenges Mal to confront their feelings about fame, authenticity, and what they really want out of a life spent chasing music.

These stories celebrate LGBTQ+ characters, challenge them, and let them be messy, vulnerable, and real. This Pride Month, and every month, these are the kinds of romances worth rooting for.
