Xero: Hello everyone, and thank you for having me. I’m Xero, the sole developer and creator of Bewitching Sinners. I do the coding, writing, art, and everything in between. My background includes working in the webtoon industry and even as a data analyst, which helped shape my skills for game development.

The World of Bewitching Sinners

Xero: Bewitching Sinners is an Amare fantasy isekai-themed visual novel. You play as Palmyr, who can be a girl, a boy, or anything in between. They get pulled into a world filled with witch hunters, witches, vampires, fairies, and other fantasy creatures. But the twist is, they might not be as morally sound as you’re used to. You have to pretend to be a student in a witch-hunting school while uncovering secrets and dealing with dangerously attractive witches.

Xero: The most obvious difference is magic—technology is replaced by runes. Instead of electricity, they use magical ink that can activate spells. Also, humans are not the dominant species. Vampires, fairies, and sirens control different regions, and morality is much lower than in our world. The mindset there is prey or be preyed upon.

Diving into the Love Interests

Xero: The main trio—Arshem, Thane, and Quill—are based on my real-life friends. Their dynamics mirror our group, minus the murder plans! Arshem is the cool, competent one; Quill is the bratty rich heir; and Thane is a mix of golden retriever energy and dangerous vampire tendencies. Lyall was added to balance the spiciness—he’s the cinnamon roll of the group.

Xero: Actually, I think Quill’s is the most straightforward. From the start, he knows you’re not his real Palmyr. At first, he sees you as a convenient cover-up, but as you bond, he lets his many facades drop. That’s what makes him seem complex.

Xero: Originally, Thane was meant to be pure sunshine, but he felt too bland compared to the others. So, I reworked his backstory—why is a vampire allowed in a human school? Why does he struggle with his nature? He wants to be kind but is constantly fighting his predator instincts.

Xero: I wanted to explore the dynamic of ex-lovers. In Bewitching Sinners, Arshem initially thinks you’re his Palmyr and acts like a lovesick ex. But once you reveal the truth, his real personality emerges—a man who gives love unconditionally but never receives it back. Depending on your choices, you can rekindle your romance or form a different bond.

Xero: Lyall reflects the struggles of witches in this world—always isolated, always hunted. He’s loved more than people realize, but it’s hidden. His arc explores the loneliness and survival instincts that shape his personality.

Game Mechanics & Exploration

Xero: Instead of using affection points, choices trigger different relationship events. Some routes can lead to vastly different experiences even with the same level of affection. For example, Arsham’s route can be soft and romantic or passionate and intense, depending on your choices.

Xero: I have a short attention span, so I wanted gameplay that was interactive. Sidequests, crafting, and exploration help players engage with the world. Also, NPCs can give new conversation topics, unlocking more story interactions.

The Making of Bewitching Sinners

Xero: I actually took two months off just to finish Baldur’s Gate 3! I needed to get it out of my system before focusing on work again. Also, making the webtoon intro took seven days straight to complete. The game originally started as a webtoon, but when it didn’t win a contest, I turned it into a visual novel instead.

Xero: Webtoon-style storytelling influenced my use of multiple POVs, comic panels, and dynamic visual effects. I wanted to make Bewitching Sinners more visually immersive than traditional visual novels.

What’s Next for Bewitching Sinners?

Xero: It’s a collection of side stories with art, showing how the characters react to Valentine’s Day in our world. The profits will help fund voice acting for Bewitching Sinners’ sequel, Royal Blood.

Xero: Yes! Royal Blood takes place two years after Bewitching Sinners. You play as a new protagonist, but you’ll see returning characters like Ivar, Thane, and Palmyr (who becomes a witch god). This time, you’ll explore the vampire empire that exiled Thane. The demo is planned for a Halloween release.

Xero: I’m not great at marketing, but if you want something fun, dangerous, and chaotic, give Bewitching Sinners a try. If it’s not your thing, that’s okay—but I hope it makes you laugh, gasp, or at least scream at the choices!
